Download the snagging list
One A4 page with room for 14 snags: what and where, who's fixing it, the date it was fixed and the customer's initials, then a sign-off when the list is clear. Free, no signup, yours to change.
- PDF to print: take it on the walk-round and fill it in by hand.
- Word (.docx): type it up after the walk-round and send the customer a copy.
- Excel (.xlsx): add rows on a bigger job and sort by who's fixing what.
What a snagging list is for
Snags are the small things left at the end of a job: a cupboard door that rubs, a missed bit of sealant, paint on a socket, a tile that sounds hollow. A snagging list writes them all down in one go, with the customer, so the end of the job is a list you work through rather than a stream of texts over the next month.
- Walk round together. Go room by room with the customer near the end of the job and write each snag down as you find it.
- Be specific. "Kitchen: left wall unit door rubs on the frame" can be fixed by anyone; "doors" can't.
- Say who's fixing it. You, your electrician, the plasterer: one name per line.
- Initial each line when it's done. When every line has a date and the customer's initials, the job is finished, and that's the moment to send the final invoice.
A made-up example
The walk-round at the end of a bathroom refit:
| What and where | Who's fixing it | Date fixed |
|---|---|---|
| Bath: sealant gap at the tap end | Fitter | Tuesday |
| Floor: one tile by the door sounds hollow | Tiler | Wednesday |
| Ceiling: paint on the extractor grille | Decorator | Tuesday |
| Door: catches on the new floor | Fitter | Tuesday |
Four lines, three people, all done by Wednesday, signed off, invoiced the same day.
Snags or extra work?
A snag is something in the original job that isn't quite right, so you put it right at no charge. If the customer asks for something new on the walk-round ("while you're here, could you move that towel rail?"), that's extra work: write it on a variation order with its price and get it agreed before you do it, rather than adding it to the snag list.
From signed off to paid
Knockround keeps a note on each customer and job, and when the list is clear you send the invoice from it with a Pay button for Apple Pay, Google Pay or card, so the customer can pay while you're packing up. It doesn't make snagging lists, so keep this template for the walk-round. Try it on the jobs board demo with made-up customers. It's free for 7 days with no card needed, then £19.99 a month.
