Download the method statement
One A4 page: the job and the site, then the work step by step, how each step is done safely, the equipment and protection, and who does it, with waste and what to do if something goes wrong. Free, no signup, yours to change.
- Word (.docx): write your usual steps once, then save a copy for each job.
- PDF to print: fill it in by hand.
- Excel (.xlsx): add rows for a longer job.
Risk assessment and method statement
The two often travel together as "RAMS". The risk assessment asks what could go wrong on the job and who could be hurt. The method statement says how you'll actually do the work, in order, so those risks are controlled. A contractor or a site manager who asks for RAMS before you start wants both.
- Write it in order. Arrive and set up, the work itself, clearing up. Someone who's never seen the job should be able to follow it.
- Match it to the risk assessment. Every control you listed there should appear in a step here.
- Name the equipment. "Tower scaffold", "dust sheets and an M-class extractor", not just "the right gear".
- Get it read. Your workers sign that they've read it; the customer or contractor gets a copy.
A made-up example
Three steps from a ceiling replacement in an occupied house, to show how the rows read. Your job needs its own.
| Step | How it's done safely | Who |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Set up | Room emptied, door sealed with dust sheet, customer told the room is closed until Friday | Me |
| 2. Take the old ceiling down | Electrics isolated first; working from a hop-up, masks on, rubble bagged as it falls | Me and labourer |
| 3. Clear up | Bags out through the front door only, floor vacuumed, sheet left until the plaster's on | Labourer |
The rest of the job, on your phone
Knockround keeps the quotes, the day's jobs and the invoices, and each invoice goes with a Pay button for Apple Pay, Google Pay or card. It doesn't write RAMS, so keep these templates with the job. Try it on the jobs board demo with made-up customers. It's free for 7 days with no card needed, then £19.99 a month.
